This customer had recently moved from Miami, Florida, to Fairfield, Connecticut. She found a beautiful vintage apartment for rent through a reputable real estate agency, but she was a little nervous since she sealed the deal without looking at the apartment in person. She had never lived there, so she didn't know what the housing standards were like. She was pleasantly surprised when she arrived at the place where she would spend at least the next year of her life. Even though it was an old apartment, the entire place looked as good as new when she moved in. However, just a few months later, she started to notice that her shower-tub's grout and caulking had become darker and even black in some areas. She notified the landlord, who quickly knew what to do. He had a few other apartments for rent, which meant that he constantly needed to be checking them for maintenance problems. He had already used our grout cleaning service in Fairfield for another one of his rental properties, so he gave us a call and asked us to go check the apartment his tenant was living in.

On the day set for the evaluation, we arrived at the apartment and inspected the bathroom. The grout lines were dirty; they had accumulated mold, and the caulking in the right-angle expansion joints had deteriorated. We gave the landlord a call to explain what needed to be done, and how much it would cost. After the plan was approved, we set a convenient date to do the job.

Later that week, we went back to solve the problem. We used our special Sir Grout tile and grout cleaner for the tiles. After that, we repaired the damaged grout and removed all the old caulk. Then we applied ColorSeal to the grout lines to recolor them, making them look even and making sure the grout remains mold-, mildew-, and stain-resistant. After that, we replaced the old caulk we had previously removed by applying Stainmaster Epoxy Grout in all the right-angle expansion joints. After the cleaning and repairs were done, we buffed on our Sir Grout Tile Armor sealant over the entire shower.

Once the job was done, we showed the tenant and landlord the results. They could not have been more pleased. The renter was happy that the problem was solved and asked us what she could do to keep the bathroom looking so well. We explained to her that she should always use a pH-neutral cleaner and never leave tiles to air-dry. We also told her that she should keep her shower-tub well ventilated as standing water can cause mildew and other fungi to proliferate.

If your grout lines are prone to accumulating mold and mildew or the caulk in your shower or tub enclosure is stained, this might be a sign of leaks or deteriorated caulk, which needs to be taken care of sooner rather than later to prevent irreparable water damage.
