Keeping tiles clean is relatively easy. However, homeowners tend to make mistakes that result in bigger problems. That's what happened to our latest customer, whose cleaning routine had ended up deteriorating the floors in her home. Since she eventually realized that her cleaning efforts weren't enough to restore the surfaces, she decided it was time to call a team of hard surface restoration professionals.

Floor Before and After a Grout Cleaning in Stamford, CT
She had heard of Sir Grout of Greater Fairfield County's grout cleaning in Stamford from a friend who had recently hired us to clean the surfaces in his bathroom. The friend recommended us because we had achieved outstanding results and had offered him top-notch customer service. Convinced, the homeowner went online and visited our website. After browsing our picture gallery, she filled in the form to request a free in-home consultation.

On the day of the assessment, the homeowner showed us the floors she wanted us to restore. We noticed that combination of dirt and discolored grout lines made the surfaces appear dingy and lifeless. When we asked the homeowner about her cleaning routine, she explained she had been using a DIY soapy cleaning solution that had yielded positive results in the past, and that she didn't understand why the floors looked the way they did. As soon as we learned about how the client cleaned the floors, we knew the soapy cleaner was to blame.

Most soap-based products tend to leave a sticky residue behind. This film had attached itself to the tiles on the floor, trapping dirt and other harmful external agents. We always advise our customers to be careful when it comes to using DIY cleaning solutions on their hard surfaces. While it's true DIY cleaners can be good if they're properly made, most homeowners don't have the expertise required to handle them with care.

To fix the problem, we offered the client a tile and grout cleaning service. We also offered her a high-quality sealing procedure using our flagship sealant ColorSeal. The homeowner accepted our proposal and scheduled an appointment for the job.

On the agreed-upon date, we returned to the client's home to restore the surfaces. We began by soaking the floors with Sir Grout's Natural Hard Surface Cleaner. This is a pH-neutral cleaning solution that's safe for both tile and grout. It also contains properties that help reduce mold and mildew. After letting the cleaner sit for a few minutes, we used a high-speed scrubber to remove the soap and grime that covered the surfaces. Once the layer of soap was completely removed, we worked our way through the grout lines. For the grout lines that proved a little more difficult to clean, we used a steam cleaner.

Once the tiles and the grout were perfectly clean, we applied ColorSeal. Not only does this impregnating sealant protect tile and grout against water, stains, soap, spills, mold, and mildew, it also enhances the appearance of any surface by giving it a fresh look.

When we finished, we let the client see the results. She was thrilled and said she couldn't thank us enough for renewing the appearance of her floor. She said she would call us to get her bathrooms restored.

Before leaving, we provided the client with a few maintenance tips she could easily follow. First and foremost, her habit of cleaning the floors with a soapy cleaner had to stop. Now that the floors are fully protected, a soap-free cleaner like our proprietary cleaning solution diluted in water should be enough to get the job done. We also suggested keeping an eye on the state of the sealant. To do this, the homeowner should place a few drops of water on the surfaces. If the water seeps in, the surfaces must be re-sealed.
