When Sir Grout of Fairfield's expert stone honing team arrived at the Redding customer's home, they formulated a plan after assessing the level of damage on the limestone floor. Just as we expected, the limestone floor suffered both physical and chemical damage. As it can be seen in the beginning of the video, she did have a beautifully glossy limestone floor. Even if it was rather difficult to see, there were some etch marks, water spots and some damage throughout the entire floor. Since the homeowner had some pets, the uric acid from their little accidents had etched the floor in several places.

After we explained that we had to mitigate the effects of etching damage and acid to restore the limestone floor, she asked us to hone it to an elegant matte finish. Our team would use a proprietary, tested and proven honing process involving proper stone-friendly chemicals and buffering tools to grind down the damaged layer of stone. As it can be seen in the middle of the video, there was a huge etch mark right in the center of the tile. When the work was done, we reminded her that she needed to be extremely careful because some things you wouldn't expect to find their way on the floor, like tomato juice, can etch the stone. Furthermore, we also explained that juices and fruits that contain citric acid can damage the floor as well. Before we left we put two coats of sealant on it to help protect against future damage. We also gave her our special pH neutral soapless cleaner and discussed and provided instructions directly to her housekeeper on how to properly maintain the floor's beautiful new matte look, which can be seen in the "after" photo below!
